The OUSA Executive
The executive is made up of sixteen elected representatives. Your executive is elected in August of each year and serves from January until December of the following year. Their main job is to run the Association in order to get maximum benefits for students, and to sit on many University committees representing students’ views.
The President is the primary elected representative of the Association, and is the “face” of OUSA. He/She works at least 40-hours every week, and sits on loads of University committees, including the University Council. His/Her main job is to lead the Association in fulfilling its core goals. OUSA has three “Officers” who work to ensure the smooth running of the three most important functions – Education, Welfare and the Finance and Services of OUSA. Each of them takes on specific projects – such as the Class Reps system or $2 Taxis – which benefit students, as well as supporting the President in the smooth running of OUSA. They work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
The executive consists of 12 other representatives who work 10 hours per week. These positions largely relate to a specific area of representation – each academic division (Humanities, Commerce, Science and Health Science) has one person to represent the concerns of students in that division. Postgraduate students are represented by their own elected representative. Maori, Pacific Island, International Students and women each have their own rep working to meet their specific needs. There is a representative dedicated to working for the over 100 Clubs and Societies on campus. Finally, because there’s enough work to go round, there are two General Representatives who take on specific portfolios (like Environment or Campaigns) and work on other projects.
