CAPPING EVENTS May 3rd – 17th
We wouldn’t want to leave you in the lurch with nothing to do during the days of May when Capping is in full swing.  Along with students graduating there are a few zany traditions that you should see.  Or ENTER, and be a part of, if you’re brave enough.  These traditions include The Scarfie Parade, The Capping Battle and The Lowland Games. There are good prizes and good times to be had, and you’ll be able to say, “This one time, at Uni, there was this paddling pool full of porridge…..”

SCARFIE PARADE May 3rd
The scarfie parade has been going since the 1930s.  Colleges who wish to get involved come up with a theme, get given a truck, and a morning to get stuck in and decorate it.  They then parade down George Street to the Octagon as part of the graduation parade.

THE CAPPING BATTLE May 7th
For years a battle for supremacy between a makeshift army from Selwyn College and war veterans, the Lindskiis, has been raging on the banks of the Leith.  Both sides pit their strength against their enemy using flour grenades, protected only by cardboard armour, while the nurses look on.  This uniquely Otago event is both fun and extremely messy so come along and offer your support.

THE CHARITY AUCTION May 14th
An absolute must for cheap students! Remember all that stuff you lost a year or so back and never collected from lost property? Well it's about to be sold at auction. Why not come along and get a new jacket for winter, or perhaps a new pencil case full of all sorts of goodies.
