BADMINTON BEGINNERS

This course is designed for the beginner level. It primarily focuses on the fundamental skills of badminton including the basic knowledge of equipment, rules, regulations and techniques, as well as the basic skills and knowledge of badminton through instruction, footwork, serves, strokes, drill and play. Raquets and shuttlecocks will be provided.

BOXING FOR FUN

This course is a fun way to improve your fitness! Come along and increase your confidence, coordination and self defense skills while learning boxing techniques. During this course you will use boxing pads but not bags.

CAPOEIRA - BEGINNERS

This course is for beginners. Capoeira is a martial art/dance developed during slavery in Brazil. Nowadays, it is practised throughout the world and is great for fun, fitness, rhythm and self defence.

FENCING - BEGINNERS

This course is for beginners, and provides an introduction to the ancient art of swordsmanship and modern Olympic sport of Fencing. It is suitable for all levels of fitness and will cover basic footwork and attack and defence with the foil. Enrol now and give fencing a go!

JAPANESE SWORD FIGHTING BEGINNERS

During this course you will be introduced to the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu style of Japanese Sword Fighting, a traditional style of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu. The modern martial art of Kendo is based on this and similar traditional styles. Practice involves using wooden swords and, at an advanced level, live blades. In this course students will be taught correct cutting techniques, core principles and the first few kata.

KENDO - BEGINNERS

Kendo, meaning "way of the sword', is a modern Japanese martial art of sword-fighting based on traditional swordmanship. Kendo combines strong martial arts and Japanese principles with a modern internationally recognised sport. Students will be introduced to the basic techniques and principles of this martial art.

KICKBOXING

This class is designed for beginners. Come along twice a week and increase your fitness while learning kickboxing techniques. This course, based on Muay Thai techniques, isn't just an aerobic workout - you'll also get to kick and box using protective pads (NOTE: This is not Tae Bo). This course entitles you to attend TWO sessions per week. Please fill out an enrolment form for each of the streams you would like to enrol in.

PILATES - ONGOING

This course is essentially a beginners class with some intermediate exercises included to provide a gradual progression of difficulty. Sign up for the whole ten weeks, and progress throughout the semester. Pilates is an exercise programme based on the work of Joseph Pilates. During this course you will recreate your approach to exercise and re-teach your body correct form and movement. This course is brought to you in association with the qualified team at Back In Motion Physiotherapy and Pilates. As the first class is integral to the course, please be sure to attend it!

PILATES BEGINNERS

Pilates is an exercise programme based on the work of Joseph Pilates. During this course you will recreate your approach to exercise and re-teach your body correct form and movement. Using Pilates you will reap the benefits of moving correctly - namely better posture, a strong centre, suppleness and a feeling of well being. This course is brought to you in association with the qualified team at Back in Motion Physiotherapy & Pilates. As the first class is integral to the course, please be sure to attend it! RENAISSANCE RAPIER SWORD FIGHTING

This course provides an introduction to the noble art of rapier fencing as practised in late Renaissance Europe. We teach techniques based on seventeenth-century sources. In this course you will learn: footwork; guard positions; defensive voids; thrusting; parrying and riposting with the rapier; and use of offhand devices such as dagger, baton and cloak. Renaissance rapier is a fast-moving and fascinating sport. It is suitable for men and women alike.

This course is for beginners, and is comprised of four one-hour sessions and is for absolute beginners interested in learning to play squash. The instructor is an experienced squash player. For the duration of your squash course you have the opportunity of practising on the casual booking court for free.

YOGA - EVENING

These very popular, mixed level classes offer hatha-yoga in the classical tradition of the internationally renowned Iyengar school. These yoga classes are suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate and more advanced participants. Yoga taught in these classes includes physical postures (asana), breathing exercises and relaxation.

Bring: Comfortable, non-restricting clothes (jeans are too tight for this form of practice); Please have clean feet if you wish to use our equipment. Yoga is done in bare feet.

Lunchtime yoga for the busy! One-hour mixed level class that promote flexibility, stress relief, relaxation, toning, increased strength and stamina, improved concentration and mental focus. These classes are designed to cater for all levels of physical ability including absolute beginners. The course tutor is trained in the Iyengar school of classical hatha-yoga and has a wealth of experience and knowledge about Yoga.

YOGA FOR RELAXATION

This course is nurturing for the body and mind and is wonderful whether you are brand new to yoga or have been doing yoga for a while. This practice is gentle yet warming and strengthening and ims to unify breath and movement. The last half hour of class will include supported postures that will ease the body open gently, while the mind gets to simply...let...go: an antidote for study stress! In a smaller, intimate setting, this course will bring you balance, flexibility, strength and well-deserved relaxation.
