OUSA GUIDE TO FLATTING
Find out about your rights and responsibilities in section 3 of “Life between lectures”.

The Flatting Code
This is an OUSA-run campaign designed to help you become rent savvy. Over the period May to August there will 3 signs to watch for:

  1. The hazard sign – When repairs are needed at the property, let your landlord know as soon as possible. If they do not act on your request in a reasonable time frame you may wish to serve a 10 day working notice. Visit http://www.dbh.govt.nz/pub-sorting-out-problems to down load the form.
  2. The stop sign - Carefully consider your options before signing up for an overpriced flat. There are many flats out there of a reasonable quality. Be discerning.
  3. The go sign – This signals your chance to go get a flat review. If you are in a flat, tell us what you think of your flat and go in the draw to win $500 worth of appliances for your flat. If you are looking for a flat, search our data base of flat addresses and see what previous tenants have said about it.

LOOKING FOR A FLAT Make sure when you are looking for a flat you check out at least 5 different houses before signing a lease. Take our checklist along to help you with your decision. Also Check out our Flatting Review to see how the flat has been rated by former tenants.
