Food bank – yes we have one but did you know….

If you have no money to buy food and your need was caused by an essential expense that left you with no money for food, then you may be entitled to a Study link “Special Needs Grant” . The maximum amount in a 52 week period unless exceptional circumstances or stated otherwise is $ 200 for a single person.

Here is the criteria:

• You are a Studylink client
• You do not have savings
• You have assured Studylink you have explored alternatives including borrowing money from friends or family etc.
• You can prove you have no available funds (To do this means a verified account balance from the bank that includes the last 10 transactions made). This must be done on the same day as your appointment with Study link.  (The official policy is that overdrafts do not count as ‘funds’).
• If you have a part time job you need to take 2 pay slips

If you do not have enough money to buy food this week you can come to the Student Support Centre and we will give you a food bag.  The items provided when made into the meals, ensure adequate nutrition to sustain well being (we know because we had it analysed)!

We have provided the meal plan and recipes here in case you want to use it as your shopping list – It might be helpful if cooking and grocery shopping is a new job for you.
