My name is Francisco Hernandez... You elected me President, prepare to be governed.
For those unaware – yes - that was a weak Princess Bride Reference. I’m Fran and I’ve got the privilege of being elected as your President for this year. I’ve done an honours degree in politics and was partway through a Masters in Entrepreneurship before you fellas decided to put a stop to that by electing me.
I think politics, especially at the student level should be about making a difference for students. There are lots of different ways that I think your student association should be able to help you: whether it’s providing the best gigs and events in Aoteroa, making sure that you’ve got access to cheap meals on campus, ensuring that student flats are decent quality and most importantly defending your rights as students – whether from the government, from the uni or employers.
In practical terms this means that passionate about making life easier for students by providing more services for you. I want to bring in $1 breakfast this year along with $3 dinners. I want to bring in better and cheaper transport options for students to help you get around through student bus fares and $10 Airport shuttles. I’m also keen for other passionate students to get involved in OUSA – that’s why we’ll be bringing in a Scarfie army, portfolio system and a student council to give students different ways to get involved with OUSA.
