Self Defence for Women & Gender Minorities - Summer School, 2019

Self Defence for Women & Gender Minorities - Summer School, 2019

Free self-defence course, taught by Bell Murphy, an accredited member of the Women's Self Defence Network –Wāhine Toa and an Otago postgrad student. This workshop provides a fun, supportive space for learning about our rights and practicing simple techniques —mental, verbal and physical— based on research about what works against a bigger stronger attacker. Rather than a list of do’s and don’ts, this course this course will give you more options, skills and confidence to assert your boundaries and stay safe in a range of situations relevant to women and gender minorities' lives including harassment from strangers in public, people we know and in our relationships. It will also give you more ideas for where to find support and how to support others. All women and gender minorities (e.g. takatāpui, transgender, intersex, fakaleiti, fa’afafine, non-binary) of all ages, abilities and fitness levels warmly welcome
