Life Drawing

WHAT ITS ABOUT

In this course we will focus on the reilly abstraction, which is a system of simplifying the human form. In order to learn this we will be using it to draw casts, bones and models from life. The reilly method is the most efficient system of designing the figure in representational art. In this course we will be applying it with charcoal but it is a filter that can be used in any medium including, oil paint, ink, graphite, water colour, sculpture, and digital painting/modeling.

REQUIREMENTS

No previous experience required, just patience and an open mind. All equipment will be provided for you.

Please note that a life model (a person) will be in attendance, and partial or full nudity may be on display during this course. Discretion is mandatory and guidelines will be provided to keep the space a safe and encouraging one. This includes limitations on use of devices in the space, and asking that all participants show up on time to avoid the door being used as much as possible during the session.

A LITTLE ON THE FACILITATORS

My name is Andrew McCulloch, I have been an artist all of my life and after studying and tutoring 3D animation & Visual Effects at Victoria University’s school of architecture & design and briefly working in the film industry, my love of traditional art brought me back to the easel. Since my graduation I have spent my time exhibiting work in Dunedin and Wellington, as well as building a vocational art school focused on practical skills of drawing and painting. My most notable gallery contribution is to an annual Wellington exhibition called “Non Disclosed Artist”. For illustrators working in the entertainment industry, majority of their work is ownership of companies like Weta FX and is kept under strict Non Disclosure Agreements. Non Disclosed Artist gives commercial artists the opportunity to exhibit their own original work and is something I am very proud to be a part of.
