Empowerment and Personal Safety Programme for Wahine and Gender Diverse People
Facilitated by Te Whare Tāwharau, who provide specialist support and prevention services for students and staff affected by sexual harm and intimate partner violence. Joining them will be Bell Murphy, an accredited Kia Haumaru Personal Safety facilitator with 14 years’ experience.
The course will begin with whakawhanaungatanga, creating connection and establishing shared expectations, followed by an introduction to the programme. Sessions 2 - 5 will build progressively on one another and explore the following themes:
- Challenging rape myths by unpacking the cultural beliefs that sustain them, understanding coercive control in relationships, and reflecting on what a caring relationship means to you as a way to counter these dynamics.
- Developing physical and verbal skills that support personal safety and strengthen collective community care
- Exploring sexuality, consent, and personal boundaries
- Participating in trauma‑informed movement practices and sharing kai together.
This is open to Students from Otago Uni and Otago Polytech only.
