Southern Youth Choir

Southern Youth Choir

The Southern Youth Choir was formed in 1992 by Maureen Smith and Anthony Ritchie. It is comprised of young singers between the ages of 16 and 25 years; most from the University of Otago.

The choir aims to up-skill young singers in the region to participate in a wide range of four-part choral music and present their programmes to local audiences at the end of each semester.

John Buchanan is the current conductor and director of the Southern Youth Choir, working alongside a dedicated student committee to form a choir full of enthusiastic young singers. Often, the Southern Youth Choir feature local up-and-coming musicians, as well as showcasing their own members as soloists and conductors.

Rehearsals are held at All Saints' Church on Wednesday evenings during semester time from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. All welcome — we’d love to meet and sing with you!
