Empowerment Self-Defense and Personal Safety for the Rainbow Community

Empowerment Self-Defense and Personal Safety for the Rainbow Community

Build confidence and learn practical skills to help you navigate whatever life throws your way. This course offers a welcoming space for people of all genders under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella to learn simple, evidence-based safety tools relevant to queer experiences. No prior training is needed—everyone is welcome.

Across the session, you’ll explore your rights to safety, how to set boundaries with clear communication, how to recognise warning signs, and ways to de-escalate situations using your voice and awareness. You’ll also learn physical techniques suited for defending yourself against a larger or stronger person, along with how to seek support—and support others—when needed.

Please bring a water bottle, comfortable clothing, and some lunch.

This class is run by Kia Haumaru.
