MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 6 MAY 2019 AT 9.08AM HELD IN THE CLUBS AND SOCIETIES CENTRE, ALBANY STREET, DUNEDIN

 

PRESENT

James Heath (Chair), Bonnie Harrison, William Dreyer, Kerrin Robertson-Scanlon, Sabrina Alhady, Georgia Mischefski-Gray, Josh Smith, Mary Jane Kivalu, and Jack Manning.

163/19 THAT the minutes of the executive meeting held on 29 April 2019 be accepted as a true and correct record.

Careers Development topic – will be on next meeting’s agenda for further discussion.

WELCOME TO PACIFIC ISLAND REPRESENTIVE ON THE EXECUTIVE

Mary Jane Kivalu was welcomed to the whanau and James would meet up later to go over things.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

            Nothing to report in Debbie’s absence.

OUSA UPDATE

James informed the meeting that Debbie Downs and Charlie Hilton are busy with the police as the Critic Office was broken into in the early hours.  Discussion on whether more security cameras should be installed as this is the second break- in this year.

169/19 THAT Jesse Drake, Findlay Campbell, Charles, Baker Nikau Reti Beazley, Sam Poles Smith, Hamish Singh, Bronté Chamberlain, Alyssa Harrington, Emma Wilson, Cameron Young and Cait Lowndes be appointed to the Colleges Committee for 2019.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Tertiary Open Day – there are BBQ’s being held on Sunday and Monday that the Executive are being asked to manage.  William is leading this so please turn up to help.

Tertiary Precinct parking submission – William in the process of writing a submission.  William will attend a workshop on Wednesday and asked a variety of questions. James and William will present the final submission in person to the DCC.

Ramadan – is starting on Tuesday, it is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief. For Muslims, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

Community Service – discussion about this being a component of the executive’s job descriptions and some think the exec’ serve the community in their daily tasks and this could be removed.  This will be discussed in the review of job descriptions but can’t be changed until review is complete.
