Generation Vote

Generation Vote

Generation Vote was founded in 2018 to promote and teach civic literacy, and to foster a generation of engaged citizens in Ōtepoti/Dunedin. We teach a self-designed programme of five workshops in high schools at the Year 9 and 10 level, and at Skillsec Dunedin.

Topics covered in workshops include an Introduction to Politics in Aotearoa, Policy & Ideology, Te Tiriti o Waitangi/ the Treaty of Waitangi and Local Government.

It is our belief that there is a gap between the civic knowledge that you leave high school with, and the knowledge that you need to be an engaged citizen in Aotearoa. We think that everyone - regardless of age or level of education - should be able to engage with democratic processes, and by teaching civics education in schools, we aim to do our bit to increase this engagement.

Overall, through this strictly non-partisan programme we aim to educate, engage, and empower our rangatahi.
