TERTIARY RELATED POLICIES AFTER NATIONAL ELECTIONS
Imogen addressed the meeting about OUSA being pro-active in contacting local MP’s and others especially New Zealand First candidate Keegan Langeveld now that the special votes have been counted about their Tertiary related policies.
Quintin has approached Penny Simmonds, National MP for Invercargill already. He wants to know all candidates and MP’s long-term view. Quintin will reach out to – Act Party Leader, David Seymour as soon as possible.
Imogen left at 10.20am and returned at 10.22am
It was discussed that OUSA’s approach is forming a good base relationship with open minds. Ensure we have policies terms of references. It is important that a few attend a meeting, Haki is very keen to attend as a representative from Te Rōpū if possible. As Political Representative, Tessa should attend.
OUSA has pushed for the Higher Education Review along with Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association. A month ago, the government announced an extra $128 million for universities and a higher education review in response to tertiary sector-wide protests.
The Secretary and President would like to be cc’d into any correspondence or invitations please. OUSA should set clear platforms and a strategic political direction with policies when going into any discussions.
All to bring their own key issues they would like discussed before the next executive meeting to formulate a plan going forward.
Meeting closed at 10.38am
