MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 18 MAY 2020 AT 12:02 PM HELD VIA ZOOM OWING TO COVID-19

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE MEETING

HEALTH AND SAFETY

The OUSA buildings were all checked on Friday before opening on Monday.

 

 

 

OUSA UPDATE

Signage, protective screens, sanitisers and track and tracing all ready for the opening this morning.

Some staff will continue to work from home.  Events are working alternative days for staff to ensure social distancing in their office.

Starters Bar is working on ways to ensure social distancing and the other logistics for them to open soon under Covid-19 rules.

There could be an announcement this week from the government reviewing the number of people allowed at one time buildings.  Watch this space!

OUSA Insurance policies due for renewal, the insurance brokers have sent out documentation and check eligibility especially for defamation insurance.

POLICY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

sc221/20 THAT the minutes of the policy committee meeting held on 14 May 2020 be received.

WASTE MANAGEMENT GOVERNANCE GROUP APPOINTMENT

            Van der Giessen/Dykes

sc222/20 THAT Georgia Mischefski-Gray be appointed to the Waste Management Governance Group for 2020.

            It was discussed that this appointment could come under the Residential Representative portfolio on future.

REFERENDUM QUESTIONS

The Mediator recommended the Annual Report for 2019 be presented with the audited annual statements at the next referenda or student general meeting, noting it was received and accepted.

sc224/20 THAT the following questions be put to the Referendum being held on 25-28 May 2020 providing there isn’t are changes through submissions.

           

  1. Should OUSA take a stance in the general election?

 

  1. Should OUSA take a stance on the Cannabis Referendum?

 

  1. Should OUSA take a stance on the End of Life Choice Act 2019 (Euthanasia)?

 

  1. Should OUSA cancel its NZUSA membership?

 

  1. Should OUSA cancel its NZUSA membership and create a different structure for the national student voice?

 

  1. Should OUSA continue its NZUSA membership and work with NZUSA on a restructure of the current governing structure?

 

  1. Should OUSA co-host the Agnew Street Party with the Agnew Street Residents?

 

  1. Should OUSA lobby for a law change around substance testing to allow for OUSA to own a spectrophotometer (a machine which tests substances) and have substance testing available for students?

 

  1. Should the Clubs and Societies Representative be voted on only by all members of Clubs and Societies?

 

  1. Should the Clubs and Societies Representative be voted only by Executive members of Clubs and Societies?

 

  1. Should the Clubs and Societies Representative be voted on by attributing one vote to each club and society within the Clubs and Society division?

 

  1. Should OUSA investigate a better funding and accountability model for Critic?

 

  1. Should OUSA establish a branch of Student Volunteer Army permanently?

 

  1. Should OUSA work with the current owners of the Rate My Flat website to help re-establish Rate My Flat or an equivalent service?

WELFARE AND EQUITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

sc225/20 THAT the minutes of the Welfare and Equity meeting held on 8 May 2020 be received.

OUSA 130TH BIRTHDAY COMMEMORATIVE TREE

The Registrar has requested a written proposal for this.  The Vice Chancellor and the Chief Operations Officer have shown signs of approval.  The Secretary will assist the President about getting the proposal written quickly as time is running out.

 

LIFE MEMBERSHIP AWARD

There was a strong recommendation for Richard Good who retired from broadcasting on Radio One after three decades recently.  He has constantly been on air and provided many volunteer hours. A Jazz Legend!

sc226/20  THAT Richard Good be awarded Life Membership of OUSA for his services at Radio One for over three decades.

            The Secretary will inform him of this accolade. There will be a tribute on social media with photos.

 

GENERAL BUSINESS

Elections – it was confirmed that the elections for the postgraduate student representative now allow finalists to vote.

International Students survey – feedback to Arina by tomorrow please.

Student Accommodation inquiry – there is a meeting this afternoon please get any comments to Jack Saunders for inclusion.

Returning to OUSA workplace – track and trace, wellness check and general health and safety information has been sent out.
