MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 5 JULY 2021 AT 8:02AM HELD VIA ZOOM AND IN THE OUSA MAIN OFFICE BUILDING, 640 CUMBERLAND STREET, DUNEDIN

OUSA UPDATE

            Nothing new to report as lengthy update was present last Wednesday.

TE ROOPU MĀORI UPDATE

            With students being away not much to report.  Re-O’week planning underway.

 

 

OTAGO UNIVERSITY PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE

Meeting with Pacific Development Office and Maori Development Office about racism.

Re-O’week planning.  Students are away so things are quiet.

NZUSA UPDATE

Request from the Education Officer for OUSA to co-sign a letter about Dual Delivery – online and in base learning. Michaela will consult with Michael our Academic Representative and follow up on this.  Melissa pointed out this could impact Pacific Island students, especially the mature students who would prefer this.

BLUES AND GOLDS PANEL APPOINTMENTS

VICE CHANCELLOR APPOINTMENT

Professor David Murdoch currently dean and head of campus of the University of Otago Christchurch was selected after an extensive global recruitment effort.  Professor Murdoch will take over from acting Vice Chancellor Professor Helen Nicholson who will continue in the role until 2022. Congratulation from the OUSA Executive and Michaela will arrange a meeting with him soon.

GENERAL BUSINESS

Drug testing submission – Mhairi notified the meeting that Parliamentary Services have invited OUSA to present an oral submission on Wednesday at 11am; Michaela agreed to do so as Mhairi out of town.

Semester 2 Executive meetings – a poll will be set up to determine a favourable time.
