MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 9 AUGUST 2021 AT 11:00AM HELD IN THE OUSA MAIN OFFICE BUILDING, 640 CUMBERLAND STREET, DUNEDIN

 

PRESENT

Michaela Waite-Harvey (Chair), Emily Coyle, Josh Meikle, Sophie Barham, Maya Polaschek, Jack Saunders, Michael Evans, Melissa Lama, Geraldi Ryan, Dushanka Govender and Mhairi Mackenzie Everett.

MATTERS ARISING

            The submission of the OUSA on the Te Tāhū o Te Ture – Ministry of Justice proposals against incitement of hatred and discrimination has been submitted.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

There was a sewing needle found in one of the yoga mats at Clubs and Socs.  They have all been checked and there were no injuries.

OTAGO UNIVERSITY PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE

  • Pacific Island Students’ Leadership Fono – held last week, run by student engagement departments, there were 250-300 people in attendance.  A good evening.
  • Cook Island Language week -  last week
  • Tonga Language week – beginning 6 September

NZUSA UPDATE

  • Michaela has had a call with Vice President, Liam.  No confirmation of annual calendar yet.
  • Michaela is having a call with president Andrew tomorrow.  Levy structure will be discussed.  No appetite from  NZUSA to change positions.  It would be good to discuss the change of 2 core positions.
  • OUSA once again would like to develop an Accountability Policy for NZUSa. perhaps  OUSA could host a workshop on this.
  • National Council meeting on 13 August via zoom, although some people may attend in person. 
  • The Vice Chancellor has agreed to a student leadership hui being held.              

BLUES AND GOLDS PANEL APPOINTMENTS

GENERAL BUSINESS

Art Week – Thursday in Black screen printed shirts will be available, Maya leading this.

OUSA Executive nominations – there aren’t many forms in yet and it closes at 4pm tomorrow, although usual last day rush expected!  Please get out there and promote where you can.

Drop for Good – there has been a good location found.  More later.

International Cultural Expo – 7 August. Michaela said this was an excellent event. Geraldi said people had fun.

Olympics 2020, July 23 – August 8 2021 – the 16 days of competition in Tokyo were excellent.  Well done New Zealand. 20 medals = 7 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze.
