EXECUTIVE RESTRUCTURE PROPOSAL
President proposes a discussion to take place during this meeting on the rationale for an executive restructure, before the next Policy Committee, and to hold a vote at a subsequent meeting.
Restructure proposal as the document states has been discussed throughout the year at Policy Committee (PolCom) meetings.
Chris Jackson has been working on the relevant policy and constitutional documents to reflect any amendments to the Executive structure before it goes to a referenda.
Proposal that the Vice President role become a full-time position and the Finance and Campaigns Officer positions be abolished.
Will this position attract enough candidates? Plausible attractive opportunities and qualities the role would offer students were discussed.
The effect on the structure of OUSA, particularly between President and Vice President. Will this add to democratic process and give added perspective, or create unneeded friction?
Would a staffed role better fit the requirements than a full-time executive? Would a staff member have the same efficacy and legitimacy as the Vice President of OUSA?
Importance and nature of candidate’s connection to students and the University of Otago to the role (Vice President or staffed)
While a staff member provides more continuity, the process of moving a staff member on is much slower compared to yearly elections for a Vice President.

Meeting closed: 5.55pm
