UNIQ OTAGO GUESTS

Jay and Sam were introduced to the meeting and invited to speak.

This is a follow on from our Annual General Meeting held last week where UniQ submitted 3 motions. They would like to see advocacy across the Executive portfolios for Queer students. They also want to lobby for more ‘all access/gender neutral toilets’ on campus. Quintin said he would talk to the Chief Operating Officer at their next meeting. The third motion was regarding the Queer Space in the Union building as it appears to be loosely managed. Who do they contact regarding this space and would appreciate consultation on the access to this room. Their emails are given when applying for access and they would like to know who has access to them. It was agreed this space was in its infancy, but it would be good to get some clarity.

Haki suggested there be a genealogy and background of the space written up on a plaque outside as people don’t know about this space.

IMMIGRATION ACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OPEN LETTER

As attached.  A request has been asked to support an open letter from a collective of organisations and different groups to abolish the Acceptable Standard of Health (ASH) immigration instructions, to upholding the human rights of all migrants in law, policy, and practice. These standards restrict visa eligibility by reducing impacted immigrants, refugees, and families to a presumed cost of healthy and/or education services. These should not discriminate based on disability and healthy grounds.  This is a widespread issue especially for students.

Campbell/Yam

178/23 THAT the OUSA Executive sign the open letter to abolish the Acceptable Standard of Health requirements.
