UNIVERSITY OTAGO PACIFIC ISLAND STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION UPDATE
- Welcomes this week and next week.
- Meeting with all Pacific Island staff above up and coming Uni projects with Quintin and Hone
- New pathways for undergraduate entry in sciences
- Still working on the Leadership working camp
- Quintin and Elisepa to arrange a meeting and greet with both organisations.

TE RŌPŪ MĀORI UPDATE
- Te Rōpū Māori didn’t manage to attend the hui at Te Tumu as intended
- Hone Paul meeting and feedback with Te Rōpū Māori
- By election in conjuction with an SGM being initiated for about 3 weeks, hopefully the full TRM executive should be elected at this meeting.
- Reaffirming interest in matters with the Māori Development with wider consultation.
- Orientation 2023 went well.
- Haki was asked if there was a TRM member who would like to sit on the Post Graduate Working group? Haki suggested more than one Rōpū have someone attend so Keegan will check this out. There will be a request for a PI student to sit on this group as well.
OUSA UPDATE AND CEO 2022 FOURTH QUARTER REPORT

NZUSA UPDATES
Tessa indicated there was a draft document coming about the students affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. This will be distributed via Quintin.
There is a large Teachers strike next week and NZUSA wish to support them. OUSA discussed being involved with a couple of executives attending the protest in solidarity in the Octagon.

GENERAL ELECTION STRATEGY
As attached. Owing to the 2023 Aotearoa General Election later in the year this presents an opportunity for OUSA and other student bodies across the Motu to mobilise 400,000 tertiary students to push for real, effective policy that will make meaningful material change.
The 3 core messages we want to lobby for but not exhaustive are:
- Extending the winter Energy Payment to full-time tertiary students receiving any form of living assistance.
- Expansion of Student Allowance to a broader cohort. This needs to be further discussed as to whether this will be a fully blown universal student allowance or just greater reach.
- Improving the standard of student rental in North Dunedin, without detrimentally impacting the affordability.
